WHAT WOULD IT TAKE?
by
Charles T. McGrath
What would it take to quit smoking, to purge my body of
pounds? What would it take to conquer bad habits, producing smiles created
from frowns? What would it take to quit drinking, to flush my heart of hate;
to extend my hand to any man and know I’m secure and safe? What would it
take to disarm my fears and trust the world through faith?
What would it take to feed hunger, cure all ills, curb all pain, and cleanse
all past done grief? What would it take to turn the deserts green and make
the oceans fit to drink? What would it take to provide homes and jobs and
hope and meaning to all who dare to dream? What would it take to preserve
the beauty surrounding a mountain stream?
What would it take for children to know their world beyond
is alive and aglow, no barriers or borders, there’s only to do? What would
it take for the rainbows colors to blend in me and you? What would it take
to continue the search, the details being mans, for that single thought we
need more time to understand? What would it take for all to agree what we
seek serves humanity? In the meantime, what would it take at the very least
to bring to earth a world at PEACE?
